This bill increases the mandatory minimum sentences under the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. Under the bill, the penalty for recruiting a minor or a person with a disability into a criminal gang is increased from 5 years to 10 years for the first conviction and 15 years for any subsequent convictions. Additionally, the bill prohibits judges from releasing individuals on recognizance bonds if the person has been convicted of bail jumping or had an arrest warrant issued for failure to appear (except for nonserious traffic offenses) in the previous five years.
