This bill contains several provisions related to the release of individuals charged with violent crimes and felonies involving a firearm. Most notably, the bill provides that if a person charged with a violent crime or felony involving a firearm is already out on bond for another such offense, the original bond must be revoked and a hearing held. If a new bond is granted, the full amount of the bond must be posted, rather than 10%, as is normally required. If the person is already out on bond for two such offenses, the full amount of the bond must be posted and a bond company may not be used. Additionally, the bill makes it a felony to commit a violent crime while on pretrial release for another violent crime, with judges able to impose a sentence of up to 5 years in prison either concurrently or consecutively. The bill also requires that when determining whether to grant pretrial release or conditions for release, courts must consider whether the person is already out on bond for another offense. Finally, courts are also allowed to order electronic monitoring rather than, or in addition to, bond.
